Team Results

The club has had teams out and about at the Area Dressage & Showjumping Shows.  The great news is that the Dressage Team 1, which consisted of Bryony Ross, Gillian Turnbull, Morag Smart & Kelly Welsh, came 2nd in the Novice Dressage area qualifier and they have now qualified for the National Championships which are held in the Autumn.   Congratulations to the team, this is a great achievement.

There is more details about all the various team activities that have been going on on the Teams page.

Good Luck to Susan Campbell

Susan Campbell, a previous committee member has sold up, lock, stock and barrel and moved to the Orkney Islands taking her entire entourage of 2 and 4 legged friends with her, which included amongst all things, - an Ostrich!!  Susan was a club member for many years and we wish her, and her family all the best in their new life.

Here are a few photos that Susan has sent us from Orkney

Riding on the Roads

We have received the following information from the BHS regarding riding on the roads:

Please consider signing up to http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Horseriding/

The BHS is asking for last-minute amendments to the new Highway Code, which could be in force in August. The BHS suggested amendments to the new Highway Code to the Secretary of State back in February 2006. But according to BHS director of access, safety and welfare, Mark Weston, some have apparently been ignored.

**The Code will forbid riding two horses abreast on narrow and busy roads and when riding around bends. It will also exclude horses from all cycle tracks**.

There can be many valid reasons for riding two abreast: groups of riders, nervous horses, novice riders, and defensive riding on winding country lanes where there is insufficient room for a car to pass a single horse safely.

**Breaches of the Highway Code could potentially be used in evidence in any court
proceedings under the Traffic Acts in order to establish liability in an accident**.
There are many cycle tracks which have been specifically designed for use by horse
riders, and the loss of these would be very serious for those who rely on them.

Members successes

Many of our members have been out competing this year, below are just the members successes we have heard about, we are sure there are many, many more, if so please let us know and we will give you a special mention on the website.

Showjumping - Laura Huntly and her horse - Belgian Prince have been out doing some BSJA. They were second in the British Novice at SNEC on the 3rd of June then went on to win the British Novice at Dabbs the next week on the 9th of June.  They have also qualified for the 90cm amateur championships.

Showing - Quite a few of our members were at Drymen Show this year and they have done really well.  Fiona Newland's pony 'Greenlaws Action Man' ridden by her daughter Hannah Newlands won the Working Hunter Pony and Best turned out.  Fiona was also placed both in hand and ridden with her other horse Terevachine in the CHAPS non-native classes.

Susan Oliphant won the Riding Horse over 15.2hh on her horse Merlin.  Susan went on to come 2nd in the Ridden Horse Championship (see the latest Members profile for info on Susan Oliphant).

Stacy Gamble was 2nd on Behesht Tsunami, and won the best turned out in the anglo, part bred or pure bred arab section. Stacy was also 2nd Reserve in the Arab Championship.

Also at Drymen Show, Liessa Allan, our Club Treasurer won the veterans in hand and veteran championship with Behesht Ahuramazda.

Eventing - Caroline Guy, Bryony Ross & Gillian Turnbull have all recently been out competing at Intro level.  Caroline Guy has had a great start to this her first season doing affiliated eventing.  She has finished in the top 20 in her first 4 events, with her best result to date being 6th at Oatridge horse trials.
